Verdi’s Requiem by South Chiltern Choral Society
March 24 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm GMT at Reading Town Hall £5
The South Chiltern Choral Society is delighted to be joining forces with the Parenthesis Choir, professional soloists and the Reading Symphony Orchestra to perform Verdi’s Requiem at the Concert Hall, Reading Town Hall.
It is a wonderful opportunity to hear well established local choirs and orchestra do justice to one of the best and most popular choral works. The powerful emotions of the Requiem’s text are expressed through beautiful melodies and dramatic contrasts, including the terrifying yet instantly recognisable Dies Irae. Classic FM has defined this Requiem as falling into the ‘blockbuster category’ in terms of its impact when performed.
The concert begins with Wagner’s Tannhauser Overture which is one of the finest operatic preludes ever written. An epitome of the drama, it foreshadows the struggle between good and evil, and the final victory of good.
The concert’s conductor is Stefan Hofkes.
Tickets prices are £16 (Balcony), £14 (Stalls) and £5 (under 18s and full-time students all tickets). All tickets are inclusive of booking fee. Tickets are available from choir and orchestra members or from the Concert Hall Box Office on 0118 9606060.
