Why not try another way to keep fit?
Why not try the Sonning Common Green Gym? This a great way to be active, get out in the open air, and improve your fitness, combining this with helping your local environment and the local community.
We take part in activities such as tree planting, maintaining the commons such as Nettlebed and Kingwood, working at the Ewelme Water Cress Beds, helping at Grays Court and Nuffield, hedge laying, clearing footpaths and working at several nature reserves.
It is entirely voluntary, and free; come as often as you like or can manage. No experience is needed – just enthusiasm (and old waterproofs).
We welcome all ages and abilities and have helped a number of young people to pass aspects of their Duke of Edinburgh awards.
We meet every Thursday and Saturday from 9.30 to 12.30 with break for coffee and delicious cakes.
All equipment and tools are provided and safety is paramount.
The idea for a green gym was the brain child of Dr William Bird when he worked at the Sonning Common Health Centre and now there are branches all over the UK. He has found that green gymmers feel fitter, have more energy and have a feeling of wellbeing enhanced by being out in the fresh air surrounded by the natural world.
So why not come and try out for a session. It is a very friendly group ready to make you feel welcome and help you with new skills.
